What does CSA stand for?

CSA stands for Canadian Standards Association.

What is a CSA Certification Label?

A CSA Label is a mandatory approval label on all factory-made manufactured/mobile homes in Canada. Typically, you’ll find a CSA Certification Label on the front door of a manufactured/mobile home. If the original label is lost or removed, the original CSA Certification number must be accessible and the building must become rectified.

The CSA Label is created in order for mobile home manufacturers and sellers can be held accountable. The Safety Standards Act, Electrical Safety Regulation under Section 21 states that no one can sell a used manufactured home unless the electrical equipment meets current standards and a CSA label provided by the provincial safety manager. What is a Silver Label?

If a CSA Label is not available on a used/new mobile home or factory-made structure the provincial safety manager must re-certify the structure. This recertification results in a Silver Label.

Do you need a Silver Label if you already have a CSA Certification Label on your mobile/manufactured home?

No, if you already have a CSA Label on your manufactured/mobile home or structure, you do not to be re-certified with a Silver Label.

Can I sell my home without a CSA or Silver Label?

No, selling a mobile/manufactured home without proper certification is illegal.

Who can re-certify my mobile/manufactured home in BC?

Mobile/manufactured homeowners will have to apply through Technical Safety BC (FKA BC Safety Authority)  for a Silver Label permit. A Safety Officer can then go over and approve the structure.
